9 x 5 Art and Wearable Jewellery Competition and Exhibition
at HAEG’s Lovett Gallery

HAEG invites artists to participate in our 9 × 5 Art and Wearable Jewellery Exhibition, running from 3 October to 18 October 2026.
The original and iconic 9 by 5 Impression Exhibition of 1889 featured works by Victorian Artists Society painters Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, and Charles Conder, who famously painted on cigar box lids measuring 9 × 5 inches. This exhibition celebrates that tradition while providing a contemporary platform for both visual art and wearable jewellery.
The jewellery category of this competition and exhibition is open theme. Submissions are welcome in any genre, style, or material.

Artwork Delivery
Completed artworks must be delivered to:

Wednesday 30 September 2026
10.00 am – 2.00 pm
Alternatively, works may be sent by post or courier and must arrive prior to 30 September 2026.
All works must be for sale
Opening Night & Awards Presentation
Friday 2 October 2026 at 6.00 pm

Collection of Unsold Works
Unsold artworks must be collected on:

2.00 pm – 4.30 pm
Unless prior arrangements have been made and approved by HAEG. Any works not collected within the agreed timeframe will be deemed abandoned and will become the property of HAEG for organisational purposes.
Entry Fees
- HAEG Members – $5.00 per entry
- Young Artists (up to 18 years of age) – $5.00 per entry
- Non-Members – $10.00 per entry
Exhibition Requirements
Each entry fee for the 9 x 5 Exhibition includes one (1) MDF panel measuring:
127 mm × 229 mm (5 × 9 inches)
3 mm thickness
Entries may be submitted in both portrait and landscape orientations.
Panels may be collected from Cygnet Gallery, 9A Mary St, Cygnet after registration has been submitted. It is the responsibility of the entrant to arrange pick up by another person if they are unable to do so themselves. Please provide proof of registration to the sitter on duty.
Artists are encouraged to create their work on the official 9 × 5 inch MDF boards supplied by HAEG.
Please ensure that your mdf board is properly sealed including the sides prior to painting to avoid swelling.
Artists wishing to use their own substrate, panel, or surface must ensure it matches the specified dimensions exactly. Entries that do not comply with these dimensions will not be accepted.
Entry Conditions
- A maximum of two (2) artworks may be submitted per artist per category
- If the title and price of the artwork is unknown at the time of registering please mark the box “untitled ” and advise HAEG of your title and price prior to artwork delivery day 30th September 2026 by email at info@haeg.org.au.
- Entries must be the original work of the artist and must have been completed within the past 12 months.
- Please ensure that your mdf board is sealed including the sides prior to painting as the board may swell.
- Works on paper, printmaking, mixed media or watercolour will be accepted and must be securely attached to front of the board using double sided tape or suitable fixative.
- All 9 x 5 artworks must be clearly labelled on the reverse with:
- Artist’s name
- Title of artwork
- Sale price
- 9 x 5 works must be submitted unframed and without hanging hardware.
- Artworks will not be curated or displayed in the usual manner.
- Jewellery submissions must be wearable, but is open to all themes.

Accepted Artworks
The submitted work must be the original work of the artist and not previously exhibited, displayed or offered for sale elsewhere including online. The committee may withdraw artwork found not to comply with our Terms and Conditions.
Entries delivered by post or courier must be prearranged with HAEG, and include return packaging, delivery fee, completed delivery labels and details of courier.
Entries with special display requirements should be discussed with HAEG before the exhibition as HAEG may choose not to accept the piece.
Display by HAEG
All entries will be exhibited at the discretion of HAEG.
Entrants must agree to display their work for the duration of the exhibition and to publication or reproduction of their work for promotion.
HAEG and their associates will exercise all reasonable care in handling the works submitted but will not be responsible for loss of and or damage whatsoever to any works while in the custody of the Group.
Judging, Awards and Sales
This is an open competition.
The judges are independent of HAEG and their decision will not be influenced by the organisation. Age of artist will be considered by judges. The judges’ decisions will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.
A 20% commission will be charged on sales for members and 30% for non members.
The Prizes will be announced at the Official Opening on Friday 2nd October 2026 at 6pm.
Comments/Complaints
The volunteers who are supervising the exhibition are not able to address your concerns.
