The Opening
Posie Graeme-Evans opened Southern Exposure 2014 to a hall filled with enthusiasm, and before long the awards were being presented to the ones chosen by the panel of three local judges – Michal Schlitz, Sue Lovegrove and Guy Roberts.
There were a record number (more than 200) entries into Southern Exposure this year, with a wide range of styles and subjects.
Thanks again to the many sponsors who made Southern Exposure 2014 possible, the hard work of many HAEG volunteers, and of course the artists who submitted more than 200 entries for display and judging this year. Food, wine, and music provided by DayStar Duo completed the evening.

A very fresh & alive painting – alla prima style. Liked the light & shadow of the fore, middle & background. Nice articulation of clouds.
Student Photography Award ($200)
Samara Corcoran: “Picture Perfect”
A playful & inventive narrative with collection of treasures used within the story.

Callan Kirk-Synnott: “My Horse”
Quirky, colourful painting with great emotional expression and consideration of details, ie dimples & forelock.
Highly Commended Photography ($500)
Melanie Lunden: “The Boer War Memories”
Taken at Boer War Re-Enactment, Hobart. Great technical composition with intrigue. Freckles are beautiful and illustrative.
Award for Excellence Photography ($1000)
David Murphy: “The sea, the mist, the stone boat”
Is atmospheric and Turner-like. It has both movement and stillness with the waves and foreground rock giving it narrative.
Highly Commended 3D ($500)

Is amusing and inventive. A motor bike exhaust that makes terrible noise in real life but makes beautiful noise here.
