COMPETITION RULES

Registration. 10 – 11am on the 7 – 8 December 2024 at HAEG’s Lovett Gallery,

Each artist may submit 2 artworks. A fee of $5 for HAEG members and $10 for non members per work will be payable on the HAEG website before the weekend of the 7th of December.

Lovett Gallery will be open for registration from 10am to 11am on the 7th and the 8th of December for artists to have their supports (canvas or paper) stamped at the gallery. Unstamped entries will not be accepted for judging. The support may be prepared with gesso, or a single colour ground. Paints, pastel, pencil, inks watercolour or mixed media may be used but photography, 3D works and prints won’t be accepted. A gallery card will be provided for the artist to complete and attach to the completed work for display.

This is a Plein Air competition which means that all entries must be the entrant’s original work started and completed by the entrant whilst outdoors, within the Huon Municipality, on the Cygnet side of Huonville over the weekend of the 7th and the 8th of December.

Completed works are to be returned to the Lovett Gallery between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, the 8th of December. All submitted artwork will be displayed in the Lovett Gallery for sale during the following weekend. A commission of 20% will apply. Please plan ahead and fix appropriate hanging hardware to your artwork.

An independent judge will view the artworks and the winners will be announced at a wine and cheese opening at the Lovett Gallery on Friday the 13th of December at 6pm. Prizes to the value of $1000 will be awarded. First prize $500, second prize $300, and Highly Commended $200.

It is the entrant’s responsibility to collect any unsold artwork between 3pm and 4pm on Sunday the 15th of December or by arrangement with HAEG.

HAEG runs the annual “Huon Art Awards” in the Cygnet Town Hall, starting on the first Friday of March every year.

The Huon Art Awards is an annual judged art competition and exhibition open to all. Young artists (18 and under) are judged separately.

There is one judged “Huon Art Award” ($2,000), two acquisitive awards ($1,000), three judged awards for each artwork category, two judged overall “Young Artist” awards ($750 and $250), and one “People’s Choice Award” ($1,000).
